Hallo zusammen, gestern habe ich nach insgesamt 4 Wochen Arbeit eine deutsche Übersetzung von ScummVM 1.1.0 fertig gestellt. Es handelt sich dabei um die Version für Windows, eine Linux/MacOS-Portierung folgt!
Das englische Original wurde unverändert übersetzt, sonst gab es keine Veränderungen im Programmcode!

Hello guys, yesterday, I finished my german translation of ScummVM 1.1.0. It's the version for Windows, I'll port it on Linux/MacOS later.
The only things that are modified in the original english Source-Code is the language, the rest is unmodified!

1) First of all, the official language of this forum is English. We have many people here not understanding a peep of German. Please respect that and don't write posts in German only. Thanks.
2) We do have an ongoing discussion of a true localization approach in our patch tracker: link. Help is always welcome, of course.
3) Your approach is...complicated at best. For each new version, you'll have to try to merge your changes back into the source and then deal with new strings. Not really the best way.
4) Because you did change the code, you are obligated by the GPL to release the source code changes. I don't see it there on your homepage.
5) You putting your name there prominently on the launcher, while legal, is, in my opinion at least, morally rather shifty. I for one think it's quite bold, to be frank.

Sorry....
I see I have much to learn
At first, I will follow the Dr's tip and remove my name from the launcher. At the moment I cannot upload the source code, because I have much too less webspace and traffic, so I have to find a solution first.
I hope my idea is not too bad...
Edit: "Copyright"-Hint removed.

Lothar93: You're not the first one to offer the first translation as you say on your website. There was a time when I offered German and French translations of ScummVM at the times 0.8.0. Because of lacking interest and because it takes so much time to translate the same strings over and over again (even with some means of automation) I abandoned everything.
Meanwhile I hope for the ScummVM team to include the possibility to translate the programme professionally.
If you have troubles with webspace for the source code: Register at www.bplaced.net - there you will have more than enough for it.

Oh I'm sorry, I looked at Google and I thought to have the first translation.SimSaw wrote:Lothar93: You're not the first one to offer the first translation as you say on your website. I removed this sentence from my website.
Sorry again.
Thank you for the bplaced.net-Link, this is exactly what I seached for.

Its cool having the German Edition and all, and I'm pretty sure there were many such attempts throught the years, even in a number of other languages.
Don't want to ungreatful or anything, but couldn't all this effort, which is periodically invested and repeated, be concentrated in bring a universal ScummVM formal translation system?
This system could be updated regularly, ease up the process and support, and open the doors for many, many new language. In other words, ScummVM translation projects UNITED, which would really be a great contribution and benefiting everyone.
Just an opinion. So what can you guys say on the matter?
Cheers

Hello, I think there is a translation module on the Roadmap since 2007, but at the moment, I think there happens not very much in this direction. But one translation module or plugin would be very cool!garrythefish wrote:Its cool having the German Edition and all, and I'm pretty sure there were many such attempts throught the years, even in a number of other languages.

Greetz )
As much as I appreciate your efford, I don't quite get the sense. The games run in the specific language you chose, and if you use the Gandimann patches, even the title screens will be translated to German. The only thing is that the ScummVM GUI itself is not German, but I think that that is not a problem at all since you only use it to start the game.
I think it would be a lot better to write a German manual or FAQ on ScummVM rather than translating the in-program text.

The sense is that some people asked me how to configure ScummVM, so I decided to translate the GUI. But it's a good idea to translate the manual tooNikioko wrote:As much as I appreciate your efford, I don't quite get the sense. Server upgrade
Hey guys, I moved my website to a new server, so the performance should be much better now. I also started the translation of Version 1.1.2.
