Ah, yeah, I tried running it on my 386SX 16 Mhz (upgraded to whopping 4 MB of Ram from the initial 512kb). My dad bought a new, doublespeed CD Rom drive and a sound card and Simon the Sorcerer was supposed to be our first CD Rom Talkie game. Just we couldn't get it to run initally, got the dreaded "UMB, linked" error (I still have horrors of trying everything).
I think it was a week until I (about 14 or 15 back then) finally managed to find the mistake - it was something with the EMS driver so I made a boot disk and finally managed to play the game. And while it wasn't my first adventure game (that honour goes to Indy 3 and then Monkey Island 2) it was my very first talkie game and completely blew me away. Still until today, with the 2 before mentioned games it holds a very special place in my heart
And to think, how easy ScummVM made it to run those games
