Hi everyone!
Yesterday I found this game in a local retailer and bought it. It's the "Lucasarts Classic" re-edition wich comes in CD and with a nice .exe to run it on Windows XP.
As a collector wannabee, the first thing I did with the CD its a copy, just to avoid damage to to original media, and what was my suprise when I found the CD had 3 audio tracks (Other "CD versions" I tried didn't have those tracks).
I ripped them and tried to put on the Sam & Max folder with no result, I've done a small search around here -and the wiki- and found nothing, so I came here to ask about those audio tracks, and how -if it's possible- can I enable them in scummvm.
That is all. Thanks in advance, and congratulations for your awesome work :3

S&M doesn't use CD tracks as seen here;

If you describe us what is on those mystery tracks contain, someone may know if there is something you can do with them, if anything.

Re: CD Music in Sam & Max - Hit the road
I thought that was pretty common. I have three versions myself: One that I presume was the original release (it was part of a pack that LucasArts used to sell on their web page), and two "LucasArts Classic" release, one of which also includes Day of the Tentacle. That last one is the only one that doesn't have CD audio tracks. Though mine have four tracks, not three.Neuromante wrote: As a collector wannabee, the first thing I did with the CD its a copy, just to avoid damage to to original media, and what was my suprise when I found the CD had 3 audio tracks (Other "CD versions" I tried didn't have those tracks).
At least the first of them had a separate Main Menu program where you could choose between configuring the sound, plaing demos, etc. One of the menu items was "Play Audio Tracks", and gave the following names for the four tracks: Sam & Max Theme, Mole Man Music, King Of The Creatures, and The Bigfoot Shuffle.
I think the Mole Man Music is a bit extended compared to what you hear in the game.

I just realized I have four, since I stumbled over a cheap copy of the Mac version on an auction site some time ago. That one also has four audio tracks.eriktorbjorn wrote:I have three versions myself:

Do they all have the pre-emphasis flag set, too? They seem wrongly set in my version. When played back without de-emphasis, it sounds just about it does from a genuine Sound Canvas (in parts which are mainly played by it, at least).eriktorbjorn wrote:I just realized I have four, since I stumbled over a cheap copy of the Mac version on an auction site some time ago. Yes, the sounds are used ingame! That's why I was asking about this xD
When I start the game from the CD executable, it "loads the sound":
(Click to enlarge)
And the background music seems to be the tracks. The ripper I used connected to one of those "free music bd's" to identify the tracks and returned the following data:
1 -> Data (22:00)
2 -> Sam&Max Theme (2:02)
3 -> Moleman Music (3:36)
4 -> King of the Creatures (1:39)
5 -> Bif foot Shuffle (5:05)
Of course, it detected the disk.
As for the CD itself, it has only the SAMNMAX data folder, the exe with an icon of the dog and a rtf file called "Update2_0-Sam_and_Max.rtf". There's not even an autorun.ini file.
It seems its a cutted version of that eriktorbjorn was talinkg about (without the menu) but with "ingame music playback" :S
As a bit of extra info, the version I got seems to be this: http://www.game.es/ficha/ficha.aspx?SKU=048137, but without the Activision logo atop the box, nor the 9.95€ sticker on it.

I have no idea what that means, but the parts I listened to all sounded the same on the different discs.LogicDeLuxe wrote:Do they all have the pre-emphasis flag set, too?

ScummVM used to show that screen too. Looking at the source code, I noticed that it still does if you use the (in this case misnamed) --copy-protection command-line option.
In really old versions of ScummVM, it used to play the sounds too, not just load them. (They're just a collection of sound effects.) This happened not just at the beginning of the game, but when moving between rooms as well. One of many Sam & Max related bugs back then. Ah, the memories...
