Translate ScummVM in other languages

Post by criezy »

This has been asked several times in the past and it took a long time to materialize, but finally ScummVM supports translations. This means that you can now help improve your favorite software and provide a translation of ScummVM into your language. With your help we will be able to provide the next release in several languages.

All the information you need should be on our wiki. But if you don't find the answers to your questions there don't hesitate to ask in this forum or on IRC. Once your have completed your translation you can propose it on our patch tracker..

One last word: to avoid duplicate effort, it would be best to let us know when you start a translation into a new language so that if several persons want to translate to the same language they can collaborate.

We currently have the following translations:
  • * Catalan
    * Czech
    * Danish
    * German
    * Spanish
    * Basque
    * French
    * Hungarian
    * Italian
    * Norwegian Bokmål
    * Norwegian Nynorsk
    * Polish
    * Brazilian Portuguese
    * Russian
    * Ukrainian
Edit: update list of translations

Great news. I discovered this in the Subversion Tree yesterday. Lothar93 and me will work on the German translation and are looking forward to submit the first version soon.

Ok, I would like to give it a try ASAP!
Is the translation in svn already?

Edit: ah, ok, this is explained in the wiki. :-P

It is already available in the svn version (through Options->Misc).
There is still a problem with too long translated strings: they are displayed with central dots.
criezy, is there a way to adjust the width, or do I have to make them shorter?

Following your PM I sent you an email two days ago (or was it yesterday?) that answer this question. :wink:
The short answers is there is no way to adjust the width yet. I am working on it during the little free time I have. It woll not magically add pixels to your screen though. So you might still need to make some strings shorter.

I didn't receive anything... :oops:
did you use the email address in the po file?
So you might still need to make some strings shorter.

Is someone already working on a Spanish translation? Could give it a try if it's still available.

I am not aware of anybody working on a spanish translation. We have a Catalan translation already but not a Spanish (Castilian) one. So you are welcome to work on one if you want to.

I have an outdated Spanish translation (also available on the patch tracker, I don't know why it wasn't imported in the first place). I'll try to update and commit it soon.

I just want to point out that the Hungarian translation I started was only for testing while I was trying to migrate the code and get it to work with the latest trunk. Hungarian's not my first language, so if someone else feels like picking it up, I'm sure a lot of what I have in there will need to be changed ;)
