total newbie. Help!!

Post by donjuan »

Ok, I've got day of the tentacle, and I've also just downloaded scummvm.

What the hell do I need to do to get the game to run?

These are the files I have for DOTT...

ADLIB.IMS
DOTT.EXE
GMIDI.IMS
MONSTER.SOU
NULL.IMS
ROLAND.IMS
TENTACLE.EXE

If I run the .exe file from the dos prompt, I can configure the sound settings, but I can only ever get the music to work, never the speech.

can someone PLEASE tell me in simple terms, how I get scummvm to run the game? :?:

Simply install ScummVM and launch it. Then click on Add Game. Now find the directory your game files are in and click Choose. After ScummVM adds your game it will be listed in ScummVM and you launch your game from there.

yeah, thats pretty much what the readme file says, but whenever I try to launch scummvm, I get a dos window, then it freezes, and I have to end task.

As I remember that dos warning was about some file missing. It was discussed and explained by someone here. Turns out the missing file is generated later. I'll see if I can find out where that discussion is.

ahh.... EDIT: ok, just got the missing files.

But I can't even get scummvm to load. It just freezes. I tried the methods in the link that Frank pointed out, but I don't really know what I'm doing. :?

If you got them from your CD, just copy all of them over again. If you got them somewhere else, we do not support that, netiher we give any help in such cases.

Ok I re-installed summvm, and re-coppied the files from my cd.

Still not working.

solution might be that one:

http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?p=4860

(since you said scummvm freezes - even before you can point it towards the datafiles?)

hope that helps,

Those files are in the subdirectory TENTACLE or DOTT on the CD.

You have to copy THESE files, not the ones from the root directory.

The cd-root also contains dott.exe, tentacle.exe etc, but without the datafiles.

And scummvm only needs datafiles+monster.sou, nothing else.
