USB 2.0 Loading - IOS58

Post by Paperman »

Since the newest Update (System 4.3) it's possible to load homebrew without cios per USB 2.0.
Is it planned to integrated USB 2.0 Loading to ScummVM Wii?
This would solve some loading issues.

to everybody giving this a try: let me know how it works out. it seems there's still a problem and not every mass storage device can be mounted (at least with HBC)

You just need to have it installed.

If you are under Wii Menu 4.3 then it already is. If you don't want to update you can use Tantric's IOS58 Installer (search for it at wiibrew.org).

In order to verify if your HBC is running on IOS58, press Home button when you are at it, and at the top corner you will see the IOS version HBC is using.

Dhewg: I have a question... you say that ScummVM must be run from HBC channel in order to use IOS58. Does that mean that if I run it directly via an exploit, lets say smashstack, it will not load IOS58?

So with the new HBC update the new Wii system update won't erase HBC anymore right?

Thanks for your prompt answer!

If you already have HBC 1.0.8 it's safe to update to System Menu 4.3 now. This time it doesn't delete bootmii from boot2, but it might delete bootmii from IOS, if that happen, just re-install it.

Tried it. It's still a great port.
But it's not 2.0 USB Speed.
It's still 1.1. Got the same "speed issues" as with 1.1.1.
Monkey Island 3 for example is jerking.

I checked my HBC before I installed System Menu 4.3 and it said I had IOS61. After updating the System Menu I ran HBC again and it still says I have IOS61. Will it still work?

EDIT: Never mind. I used the installer but it still wouldn't work so I reinstalled HBC and that did it.

Ah yes :D Now I remember that the HBC installer detects if you have IOS58 installed upon starting.

Now we know that the IOS must be already installed before installing HBC 1.0.8 :)

Do you have HBC 1.0.8 running on IOS58??

Also, I believe that COMI struggling is not related to the drive speed but to the huge sound files which the Wii can not handle. You must compress the BUN files using the Scumm Tools in order to make COMI run properly.

It seems in this later version of ScummVM the MT-32 emulator's performance is significantly reduced on the Wii. Getting a lot of DSP-breaking where it never used to be a problem. Especially in SCI games. But even in SMI where I had no problem, it is now breaking up and slowing down in some sections. Not a big deal seeing as MT-32 emulation is far from perfect anyway. Interesting to note, though.
