No foreign fonts support for Simon the Sorcerer AGA (Amiga)

Post by hexaae »

The Simon the Sorcerer (AGA, Amiga) support is very good but there's a problem with the game in foreign languages...
I have the ITA version of Simon and scummvm shows wrong accented letters (f.e. "à è ì ò ù"). Will be improved in next version supporting also foreign languages?

Repro steps: run the game and try "Apri"->"Mappa" (Open->Map) and the game will show "Non ? stato progettato per essere aperto" using "?" in the place of "è"...

If you need I can upload somewhere the Italian version...

No it was officially translated by an Italian distributor: Leader, 1993. It exists also in French and German...

And so?
No hopes to see supported also this Italian official Amiga version with correct foreign fonts?

AFAIK there are also official Simon 1 Amiga versions in French and German, so a better font support would be really appreciated.

First off: What ScummVM version are you using?

Secondly: We do support Italian, German, French and some more versions of Simon. Indeed, even "Simon the Sorcerer 1 - Italian Amiga AGA Floppy" is listed in our detection data. But note that for each, we have to add fontdata to ScummVM to actually support it, which usually means that a developer needs to have access to the actual game data.

Can you please check if your Italian AGA Simon is correctly detected as Italian by ScummVM? (in the launcher, select the game then click "Edit" and look for the language settings).

If the game was *not* marked as Italian and after changing this it works, then this would indicate that we lack a detection entry for your game variant.

If it was marked as Italian resp. if setting it to Italian, then maybe your version used a somehow different font, although that seems strange...

So, before we keep wondering, maybe you can tell us some more :)

Yes it is.

I can at least confirm that the DOS/CD version doesn't suffer from this issue:

I don't have the AGA version to test though, so it's likely a version-specific issue.
