OSX, LOOM, INDY and SCUMM

Post by marius.mac »

Hi.
I am using ScummVM 0.8.2 on OSX 10.3.9

I have 'Indy and the Last Crusade' and 'Loom' on my harddrive. They won't play in Classic because they request 16 colors on display. And I am trying to run them thru ScummVM.

The problem is: when I browse the game folder, Scumm won't recognize neither the application nor the game files (.LFL). They appear grey as if the Scumm won't know how to handle these files.

Can you please help me?

You have to choose _the folder_ containing the game, not the game files themselves.

1) Browse and select folder IN which the game resides.
2) Press Choose

It's not that hard, is it? :)

do you have a Mac, joachimeberhard? I think the Mac has a different GUI than the PC version, not sure though.

if indeed it looks different and if someone could supply me with how-to-setup screenshots for the Mac-version I could add a separate Mac-howto page to my tutorial

I thought the GUI was standard for all ports, therefore the instructions should work the same. If I had a Windows machine to use I'd be able to test this theory.

no Mac OS X uses a standard Mac OS X dialog for selecting the game paths.

What does Windows use for the file paths, a standard explorer window or something else?

Nope it isn't. But when I choose the folder, it is saying something like: 'No game was found in this folder'. So I assumed I have to point to the game files or app.

Later at home, I will give you screenshots of various instants in the process.
Thanks a lot guys.

Windows looks like this (entirely the black/themed menus):

anyone up to send me corresponding screenshots from MacOSX and additional instructions to fix marius.mac's problem so I can make a page for it?

thanks,

On the Mac you navigate to the proper folder and click the Choose button. Here is a screen shot:

What files are in the game folder you have chosen? It could be a different problem.

Ok. Sorry about the delay but I was playing with Ubuntu Live. Nice!

Here are the screenshots.

1. I select the folder:

2. I click Choose and I get this message:

3. I browse the .LFL files:

As you can see everything is grey. The app and the files.
@HelpUsPlay: DO I HAVE TO USE PC .EXE VERSION???? I only have Mac version!

No, you don't need the PC version. You can do it either way. Does the game come with both the PC and Mac version? If so, you can use Terminal to copy the PC files and try it that way. Let me know if you want to try this and I can give details (cp \Volumes\"name of CD"\desiredfiles)

Two thoughts on your problem.

1) there are three folders with data files in them for your game, setting an additional path would be nice, but I wonder if SCUMMVM only allows one additional path, rather than 3+ - someone can answer this I'm sure!

so...

2) Keep your current folder and make a new one with all the files into one directory. Point SCUMMVM to that new flat directory and see if that works. SCUMMVM replaces the executable for the game, so it really only needs the datafiles.

Good luck!

I was just doing that.. and it works!!! All files in a single folder, including app and everything.

SO MAC USERS: KEEP ALL FILES IN ONE FOLDER!!!!!!!!

Thanks everybody and especialy HelpUsPlay.

Actually, ScummVM *does* support leaving your Indy3/Loom copy unmodified. I explicitly added support for the "Room 1" etc. subfolders at some point.

Unfortunately, that support was not extended to the detector (or was removed there again, not sure). This means that detection is broken, but if if you added the game manually to your config file, it would work.

In short, this is a bug in the detector, please file a bug report :-).
