Bringing back our CHILDHOOD games...
Title pretty much should say it but I was wondering with the support of Ecoquest, Pajama Sam, Putt Puttt and a few others in ScummVM - I was wondering how you guys would feel of supporting some childhood games ALOT of us probably played.
Have you guys ever approached let's say ... The Learning Company and their engine/games?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Learning_Company
Games like the Treasure series would be pretty sweet to play again (Treasure Galaxy was not part of the Cannon but can be supported), on the go especially!
You know...
Treasure Mountain:

Treasure Mathstorm:

Treasure Cove:

Cluefinder series was great too (Youtube them if you wanna) albeit a bit hard in the later grades but the Trail series was great as well (Oregon, Yukon, Amazon).
Of course it might be a bit hard to get these engines as The learning company, Broderbund, and a few of that merger got sold off to multiple people.
Do you guys think it's worth it or am I alone on this aspect of thinking?

Re: Bringing back our CHILDHOOD games...
There are certainly tons of excellent old games, but not everything falls under the scope of ScummVM, which is only meant to support point-and-click adventure games. None of the games you mention really fall under that genre, though they're all certainly very good. Also, this thread should probably be in the Junkyard.da1writer wrote:Title pretty much should say it but I was wondering with the support of Ecoquest, Pajama Sam, Putt Puttt and a few others in ScummVM - I was wondering how you guys would feel of supporting some childhood games ALOT of us probably played.

Of course it might be a bit hard to get these engines as The learning company, Broderbund, and a few of that merger got sold off to multiple people. The Treasure series though is abandonware along with some of the Carmen Sandiego Series (another great series by Broderbund that would bee great to play again and on the go!), so maybe it's possible?
Do you guys think it's worth it or am I alone on this aspect of thinking?
Additionally, there is legally no such thing as abandonware and discussion of that sort of thing is against the rules here for legal reasons (forum rule #0).

Agreed KuroShiro, maybe this thread does belong there but you'll have to know all the games I did mention can be played with a mouse interface only (and simple numbers and directional buttons) as the games were geared towards kids not being well with keyboards yet. Cluefinders is pushing it (along with the Trail Series) but the Treasure series could be played with a keyboard OR Mouse (or both) - check the vids to understand. Carmen Sandiego series was primarily point and click as well - I don't remember at all it using a keyboard.
First post is edited mind you, of mentioning the A word but of course I can't edit your qoute ...

I know all the games you were talking about and played them all when I was a kid. Out of the ones you mentioned, Carmen Sandiego is probably the closest to the type of games that ScummVM supports. Just having mouse control doesn't constitute a point and click adventure game .da1writer wrote:Agreed KuroShiro, maybe this thread does belong there but you'll have to know all the games I did mention can be played with a mouse interface only (and simple numbers and directional buttons) as the games were geared towards kids not being well with keyboards yet. Several of the Windows Carmen Sandiego games do use Mohawk, so it could potentially be supported in the future...KuroShiro wrote:I know all the games you were talking about and played them all when I was a kid. I really wish I could still play The Learning Company's Gizmos and Gadgets again. The CD windows version, which I have, doesnt work with modern computers. However, it's definately out of scope for ScummVM.
Sometimes I wish there was another ScummVM spinoff program, like Residual, but which was aimed at out of scope games like this. To play certain The Learning Company games again would be amazing. (Also, having Zoombinis on other platforms)

* Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?Raziel wrote:Games that used the Mohawk engine
o Version 3/3.5
* Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego?
* Where in America is Carmen Sandiego? (The Great Amtrak Train Adventure)
I remember playing the 3.5 version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego! So does that mean the Carmen Sandiego games could be supported in the future due to the Mohawk engine !

Surprised Where in Time isn't possible to be supported?

I do agree Graxor that it would be cool to play some of the old Learning Company games again (The Super Solvers/Treasure series was my favorite!)
Yeah, that uses Mohawk.da1writer wrote: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego 3.5 version:

Definitely not Mohawk.da1writer wrote: Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego 1991 version:

That one looks like Mohawk, but I don't have it so I have no idea.da1writer wrote: Surprised Where in Time isn't possible to be supported?

For USA... would it be the 1995 version then that is Mohawk?clone2727 wrote:Yeah, that uses Mohawk.da1writer wrote: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego 3.5 version:

It should be. I have the game and have looked at the files, but I never played it.da1writer wrote:For USA... would it be the 1995 version then that is Mohawk?
