Hello there. I have exactly the same problem and the last reply didn't really help me. What's the daily version of 27 january 2007? How is the matter solved?

There are always two versions of ScummVM: the stable version and the development version. These are called "release binaries" and "Subversion builds" on the ScummVM downloads page, and they're sometimes known as "branch" and "trunk" respectively.

All the development happens in the development version. Once it's decided that it's time for a new major release (e.g. 0.9.0), a new "branch" is created. From time, until the release, the goal is to make sure the new branch is stable. Ideally, the only changes to it should be bug fixes. Once the stable release has been made, the branch lives on so that new bugfix releases (e.g. 0.9.1) can be made from it. So while 0.9.1 is fairly recent, it pretty much represents the state of ScummVM eight months ago, when the 0.9 branch was created.

The "daily version of 27 january 2007", on the other hand, is what the development version looked like in late January. Such versions are built daily for Windows. Less frequenty - or not at all - for other platforms.

One change that is in the development version, but not in any stable release, concerns the way audio and video are synced in SCUMM games. The old way was very dependent on accurate timer callbacks (functions that are called automatically at regular intervals). The new way isn't. I didn't notice any changes in accuracy myself, but the new way made some things a bit simpler, and it could make a difference to some, I guess.

I had the same issue. Updating to the daily version fixed synching issues, movies now run perfectly.

However I have another issue which only occurs in game, anytime a line of dialogue is spoken there is a 1-2 second (sometimes longer) delay, with occasional suttering of sound before the line is spoken. Since most conversations are broken up into many lines, this happens repeatedly in a single conversation. Any area where dialogue is shouted out randomly (Wally at the start, for example) is almost unplayable because the game stutters everytime he is about to speak. I can also hear my cd drive whirring like crazy every time.

Windows XP SP2
P 2.0ghz, (laptop), 1gb ram, geforce 6800, 8x DVD writer/reader drive.

I don't think anyone has really tried to get ScummVM to work well for playing the game directly from the CD. (Particularly not with multi-CD games like The Curse of Monkey Island). The recommended procedure is to copy all the necessary files to your hard disk, and play the game from there.

Hoping for ScummVm 0.9.2

Cant wait to download 0.9.2!

Thank goodness the movies have been fixed in the Subversion thing. Hope that makes it to 0.9.2. I guess what's left are bugs in the game music.

I found a bug in Chapter 2 when Guybrush gets tarred/feathered in the Sea Cucumber. The same music still plays at the shore with the waterfall Guybrush walks through to get to the rest of Puerto Pollo.

Oops! I guess that should be covered in a different post, huh?

Okay, I'll just play Curse of Monkey Island now...

It's highly unlikely that there will be a 0.9.2 release. The only reason we would do this would be a very serious bug in the 0.9.1 release. Even then it's unclear whether the sync changes would be backported.

But the next major release will have 'em.

Just press and hold "+" until the red bar is filled
The conversation should run smoothly
