Elvira 1 .vga Graphic files

Hi to everyone! I've translated Elvira Mistress of the Dark in italian language, but i can't release my translation because it's not complete. My only problem is with the graphic (i guess) .vga files. I can't understand the format of this files.... maybe are they some kind of archives?
So i've thinked to come here and asking some help to understand this .vga files, the game si fully supported by scummvm so i think that you have studyed this .vga and maybe you can give me some info about them... I'll be very grateful to receive some help.
