Making Nintendo 64 images under Windows

Post by Monji »

Hi all! I was looking for any information on how to build nintendo 64 roms with scummvm supported games under windows, but I can't find anything.

How can I make my own game image under windows xp or vista? I want to play kyrandia and maybe try sam and max demos and other games. All tools are for linux :(

Please help!

In the N64 package you download, in the Downloads section, is a file titled README.N64
It's a text file. Just use Notepad to open it. The instructions are inside.

Hi Red Breast. Thanks for the reply, but the readme says:

"To generate a romfs image under linux/unix you need 'genromfs' tool from http://romfs.sourceforge.net/, create a directory, copy game data inside, and then generate the romfs image."

It's ONLY linux instructions. There's nothing about how to do it on windows in the readme that is why I ask.

It's for similar reasons that I first started trying Linux on an older PC back when I was a Windows user. In the end I found I could do everything I want on Linux and being a free OS that secured the deal so I dropped Windows.
If you don't have an older PC maybe try running Linux as a virtual OS with Sun's (Oracle) Virtual Box or VMware Player.
The only other thing I would suggest is try asking Hkz. His email is on his home page, to the far right, as his name 'Hkz' so put your mouse over it and the email should appear in the status bar.

Did you go to that page at all? There's more than just Linux listed there.

What do you mean? Did I go to the sourceforge page? I did, but I didn't find the genrom thing for windows. I'm not that educated with computers so I ask for help. I looked myself but didn't find much. If you know what to download and how to make the rom then please help with a link and the command.

Maybe this page will help. I didn't check to see if the links still work.

Under Windows, use Cygwin. You can find the links here. Follow the directions from readme.n64, and you'll be fine. Don't forget to correct the checksums. If you'll be using the Myth, you don't have to pad the image.
