Editing Graphics from EGA SCUMM Games

I was wondering if it was possible to extract the graphics from Maniac Mansion (V2 for DOS) - edit them - and then re-insert them into the game? I am mostly interested in doing this just for fun.

I know that it is possible to do this with some of the FM Towns games and Indy 3 VGA but is it possible to do this with the older EGA games?
