Sam and Max save/load

I'm trying to save my game in Sam and Max Hit the Road. I'm using a Macbook with Leopard and on the keyboard the F1 and F5 keys are the darken screen and raise volume keys on my macbook, but also the keys for saving and loading in game. How do I save or load a game when the keys perform a different operation?

This question has been asked in the past, search the forums. I believe you can press the "Apple" key together with the appropriate F-key to get the functionality you want

That error message usually means that the Save Path setting is either pointing to an invalid directory (also known as folder in some operating systems), or to one where you don't have write access.

F5 should bring up a menu where you can choose to save or load. (Though on some keyboards, they've assigned other functions to the function keys, so you may have to press some other key to switch these off. On mine, it's called "F Mode" and works similar to Caps Lock and Num Lock.)
