No, that is not what I mean, and I never heard of this effort. And implementing it in Perl... well...

One of ScummVM developers is working on it and more than half of the hardcoded scenes were already implemented, i.e. the game has been playable for couple of months now.

Yeah, but this reimplementation is in perl SDL. Quite nice, nonetheless :)

Is there a public repository for the ScummVM reimplementation? or is it private for now? As I like seeing new engines progress.

*bump*

A little heads-up: a WIP engine for Neverhood, written by johndoe, has been merged today - development was done in a private repository

is this one of those things where the user needs to turn the flag on and build it for themselves? I ask because the current SVN build doesn't seem to detect anything no matter how I present the game disc files to it.

You're not actually using an SVN build, right? :) Which build are you trying it with?

Aren't those builds currently based on the 1.6 branch, so that people can help us test the upcoming release?

It says build 1.7.0. Anyways, mine detects fine (MacOSX build), I had to add neverhood.dat manually, however.

Playing a smacker video in game gets me either a Bus error: 10 or Segmentation fault: 11 and exits. Should I file a bug report?

I had forgotten that during testing phases the SVN builds are limited to games slated for the next full build.

I'll wait to check it out until after 1.6.0 is out and the SVN builds go back to including all current data. Thanks guys.
