So, I ran across The Secret of Monkey Island - CD Talkie Edition Project which apparently adds the Special Edition voiced dialog into other versions of the game. Sadly, all the threads I could find regards the mod seem to have died.
That being the case I was wondering if someone here could clarify a few points for me or perhaps direct me to somewhere where I could find what I need.
1.) There was talk of integrating the mod into ScummVM- did this ever happen?
2.) Where can I download the latest version of the mod?
3.) The latest version of the mod I could find seemed to be a hacked version of an older ScummVM- will this interfere with the latest version?
4.) Will this mod affect the Classic Mode in the Special Edition?
Many thanks.

1) It's the other way around, a modified version of ScummVM was included with the patch (not really a mod)
2) http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=9161 In that thread somewhere near the last few pages likely.
3) Again, the patch includes a modified version of ScummVM which allows for custom speech packs for a certain era of Scumm games (namely SMI)
4) It doesn't affect the Special Edition at all. All the patch does is rip the original classic game files along with all the voice files from the Special Edition, decode them from their formats and encode them into OGG or FLAC (depending on which you choose), and creates a new folder with the modified version of ScummVM, and a game folder with the classic SMI along with the encoded speech files ready for the modified ScummVM to play with.
Other than ripping files the patch has nothing to do with the Special Edition. It's completely removed from the experience. It's only required to get the audio, basically.

Same here (in MI1:SE)balpat wrote: You know, I love the voice acting but for some reason, I just can't live with the graphics.
Because it turns off the speech (in MI1:SE).balpat wrote: And, honestly, switching to the old graphics in the special edition sucks.
I think that's why the UTE was made.
FYI, some of the new graphics exists in the UTE (e.g. the dog)

1.) Do I need to do anything special to enable this feature?Graxer wrote:You actually don't even need to download the custom version of ScummVM any more. The patch is included in the latest daily build on the ScummVM downloads page!
2.) Will this feature be included in the next official update of ScummVM?
Edit
Okay, I downloaded the mod to get a look at it's Read Me as I figured ScummVM would lack this and I'm quite confused.
3.) Do I need two versions of the game or just one? The Read Me makes no mention of needing a second version but I was under the impression that mod worked with older versions of the game.
4.) Does the latest build of ScummVM support ALL the features of the mod, because the mod seems to have many more additions then just voices.
Further Edit
I am now totally lost, I've downloaded & installed the Special Edition via Steam as well as downloading & installing the latest daily build of ScummVM. The problem is I can't ScummVM to recognize the Special Edition.
Further, I find it disconcerting that there is no mention of the patch in the build's Read Me. . .
Last Edit
I installed the mod and it worked- but I would really rather use the official (Not to mention latest.) version of ScummVM. I should also note that the mod had to copy the pertinent sound files to it's installation folder and I see nothing in the official ScummVM release to do this. . .

So, regardless of what ScummVM version I go with I still have to use mod, right? I ask because Graxer said this:tsoliman wrote:The UTE patch comes (or maybe used to come) with a modified version of ScummVM for Windows.
Follow the UTE instructions and when you get to the part about using the included version of ScummVM, use a daily build instead.
When ScummVM 1.5 is released, you can use 1.5 instead of the daily build
The above quote led me to believe that ONLY ScummVM was needed.Graxer wrote:You actually don't even need to download the custom version of ScummVM any more. The patch is included in the latest daily build on the ScummVM downloads page!

Well, the patch changes the game files themselves, and added changes to the ScummVM executable, too. The changes needed for this have been added to the ScummVM codebase (and thus the executable), but the changes to the game files are the real work done on this patch... so if you want to test this patch, you need to download it and use it on your game files, but you don't need to run a custom version of ScummVM to run it anymore.
