Hand of Fate CD version will not work.

Post by wocko1 »

G'day all

I'm having troubles getting HoF CD to work. It loads, gets to the title screen, but no menu shows up, then it goes to the intro, and it runs too fast. When I try to skip the intro, it slowly skips scene by scene, with the voices running, but when the game starts, ScummVM crashes. I tried Adlib music, and music running through my Sound Canvas SC-55mkII.

Is there anything I am doing wrong? Original version works fine in DOSBOX. I remembered to get the latest kyra.dat too.

Hmm... Looks like Hand of Fate misbehaves quite a bit if there are no savegames that can be loaded. It goes directly to the intro (which is presumably intentional), but the intro can't be skipped and the game doesn't start properly once the intro has finished.

It would be good if someone could create a bug report for that and assign it to _athrxx.

I will, now that I know a bit more about it. By the way, the good news is that this appears to be a problem in the development version only. I had no problem starting the game in ScummVM 1.5.0 and, presumably, once you have been able to start it in 1.5.0 it should run in the development version as well.

(Someone else will have to judge whether the intro "runs too fast" or not.)

Edit: The bug report has been filed.
