New scummvm release, what about savegames?

Post by topolinik »

A couple of minutes has passed since sev posted the news about the upcoming 1.6.0 and I'm wondering: are the old savegames still usable? Were they broken between 1.5.0 and 1.6.0 ?
IIRC the scummvm save function has a versioning scheme, has it?
I don't remember which source file stores that number, though...

Anyway, a big thank you to all the devs!!!

Each game engine has its own save game handling, so it depends. Backwards compatibility is almost never deliberately broken, and I'm not aware of any compatibility issues between 1.5 and 1.6 myself.

Of course accidents can happen, but when I've had issues with savegames they've usually been several years old.

Discworld 2 savegames from v1.5.0 doesn't work with v1.6.0.
They don't show up at all.

EDIT:
It was an easy fix though..
I found out that ScummVM v1.5.0 detected my game as "dw2-gb", but v1.6.0 detected it as "dw2-cd-gb".
..Simply renaming the savegames accordingly solved the problem. :)

Was there ever a non-CD version of Discworld 2? Thought it was CD only.

mobygames.com has got 4 listings for Discworld 2:
* DOS
* PlayStation
* SEGA Saturn
* Windows
They're all CD releases.

I've got the UK Argentum Collection DOS/Windows release.
