Running GOG.com games on Scummvm

Post by wolvyreen »

Hi All,

I'm new here and just love scummvm. I went on a search to get hold of old adventure games and found GOG.com.

I want to buy the King's Quest series from them but HATE the DosBox Turbo platform and rather want to play the games on Scumm. Is this even possible as I have not found any DECENT tutorial on how to do this.

Has anyone got some insight for me?

Thanks in advance peeps.

Ciao.

Firstly, this is perfectly possible.

Secondly, I am not sure what you mean by decent tutorial... We generally don't give instruction for doing this as GOG supply ScummVM with games if/when they are happy to use it to support them and we don't like to second guess them.

However, the procedure is very simple and the same for various games supplied on CD, thus:

Firstly, run installer under DOSBox/Wine or use third party extraction program to get the required datafiles.

In the case of GOG programs uing DOSBox, check the resulting dosbox.conf for where the datafiles are located. They may be within an ISO CD image renamed as *.GOG or similar. You will need to mount and extract the contents of the ISO using iso9660 loopback under Unix or a Virtual CD drive program on other OS, in the same way you would if you imaged your original CDs.

Secondly, start ScummVM, click "add Game" and then navigate to where you extracted the game datafiles and click OK. the game should be detected and can then be started from the launcher.
