ScummVM with MUNT vs ScummVM with built-in MT-32 emulator

Post by mudpuppy »

Is there an advantage to configuring ScummVM to use standalone MUNT vs using ScummVM's built-in MT-32 emulator? Or vice versa?

Can both use CM-32L ROMs?

If Munt can use CM-32L ROMs, the integrated MT32 Emulator in ScummVM based on Munt should also be able to.

The simple answer is our in-tree MT-32 Emulator is designed to be far more portable than the stock standalone Munt, which is cross platform, but only desktop platforms i.e. Win32, OSX and Linux/FreeBSD. This is only a subset of our platforms:

It also removes the need to configure MUNT separately and deal with mixing / conflicts in the OS mixer and audio devices, though this generally works in most cases with no issues.

ScummVM's MUNT version can also use CM-32L ROMs. There might be small differences in the reverb mode used since ScummVM currently doesn't distinguish MT-32 and CM-32L in that regard.

Thanks. I'll try the Scumm MT-32 emulation.

Would the following be correct?

Audio Tab:
Preferred Device: MT-32 Emulator
Adlib emulator: default
Output rate: default
Text and Speech: Speech (or can I sellect "Both" here)

MIDI Tab:
GM Device: Don't use General MIDI Music
Do I select Mixed Adlib/MIDI mode here?

MT-32 Device: MT-32 Emulator
Box for "Roland GS Mode (disable GM mapping)" is selected.

Will Munt 1.4.0 be implemented in Scummvm in near future?

The text/speech setting shouldn't matter for MT-32.

You should not enable Roland GS Mode, that is if you use a Roland GS device with MT-32 MIDI in its compatability mode.

1.8.0 will have an feature version of the MUNT MT-32 emulator. It will be at least 1.4.0, but might be any future release depending on when ScummVM 1.8.0 will be released.
