Hiya!! I just recently went through Quest for Glory 1 and 2 with the same character (love that importing feature!) on Scumm version 1.3.
When I got to Quest for Glory 3, it imported my character just fine, but the special actions menu does NOT work. You click the icon to drop it down, but it only appears there for a second on the screen. I cant play without it because I need to know the time of day, character stats, and make my character run or sleep. If there were keyboard shortcuts in this game, it wouldnt be a problem. But I cant seem to find any.
Figured it was just because that is an old version of Scumm so I updated to the lastest version for the Wii 1.5. No dice. It crashes every time I go to load up a game title. I get an "exception (dsi) error" black screen dealie.
I REALLY want to play with my character. I could start the game fresh from the start on DOSBOX with a new character, but he'd be weak, dumb, feeble and not a Paladin. (For some reason DosBox does not recognize my hero save import file as being proper. It locates it and tells me its no good. NOOooOO.
What is this black screen problem?? How can I get it to go awaay? *Cries*
I dont understand daily/nightly builds if that is a solution. Helps!

That's strange. I implemented a workaround for this game issue years ago. Which version of ScummVM were you using?StephyTheGreat wrote:When I got to Quest for Glory 3, it imported my character just fine, but the special actions menu does NOT work. The issue was supposed to be fixed since 3.9.2011
There are a few SCI games, that have special menus, which close as soon as the mouse cursor is outside of that menu. Right after opening those menus, they set the mouse cursor to be inside the menu, which works fine on PCs. When using the Wiimote it's simply not possible to actually "set the mouse cursor to a certain position". Same with touch-based devices. That's why they close down almost immediately. You could try to just move the cursor by yourself to be within the game menu really quickly.
Games affected were: Island Of Dr. Brain (game menu and pause menu within copy protection), Leisure Suit Larry 5 (skip forward pop-up), Quest For Glory 1 VGA (run/walk/sleep sub-menu) and Quest For Glory 3 (run/walk/sleep sub-menu).
Which version of QfG 3 do you own? Please open the VERSION file inside the game directory and tell me what's inside it. Also: is it a translated version or the English release?
And you are talking about the run/walk/sleep menu? Or another menu?
m_kiewitz: She says at the end of the first line of her post. Scumm(VM) 1.3(.1?) so very outdated.
StephyTheGreat: You are using a very old and outdated version of ScummVM and thus have hit a bug which has been fixed some time ago.
The latest released version of ScummVM for the Wii is v1.5.0:

This can be found on the downloads page here:
http://www.scummvm.org/downloads/
as

However, it is probably better to run the newest v1.7.0pre or v1.8.0git builds from the buildbot.
They can be found here:
http://buildbot.scummvm.org/builds.html
The "stable" build is v1.7.0pre as:
http://buildbot.scummvm.org/snapshots/s ... est.tar.xz
The "development" build is v1.8.0git as:
http://buildbot.scummvm.org/snapshots/m ... est.tar.xz
They are packed with XZ Compression based on LZMA:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xz
Assuming you are using Windows, they can be unpacked using a recent build of 7-Zip:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-Zip
Otherwise on OSX or Unix, use "tar -xvJf <name of xz file>" to unpack.
The unpacked files should be very similar to the normal release pack so copy them to SD card as normal.

Thanks, yo.
Heya, thanks everyone for getting back to me! I already covered a lot of these questions in my first post.
m_kiewitz. Digging the Kings Quest avatar! The menu that is in question is the run/sleep/walk menu. It is not possible to click anything in there really fast. It barely appears as it is. I played QFG 1 VGA and the menu worked fine. Plus part one has keyboard shortcuts so I could access everything even if it didn't. Too bad 3 doesn't have shortcuts. Meh.
The version of QFG 3 that I have is 1.1, and it is in english. That sounds old, lol.... but after doing a websearch and downloading a few QFG3 roms, they all seem to be 1.1.
digitall, I already tried 1.5. While this menu problem happens with Scummvm 1.3, I had already tried updating Scumm thinking that was the problem. 1.4 gave me the same issue. 1.5 doesnt load ANY games at all.
1.5 is useless to me altogether. Once in the game selection menu, I get a black screen that says "exception (dsi) error" after I try to pick any game. I read somewhere that you have to pick a game really fast, but that doesn't work either.
I know where all the downloads are, and how to unpack the files, thanks! I suppose I will give 1.7 or 8 build a try that a try and see how it goes. Hoping that 1.6 becomes compatible with the wii soon.

You don't have to click that fast. You just have to move the cursor down really fast right after clicking.StephyTheGreat wrote:The menu that is in question is the run/sleep/walk menu. It is not possible to click anything in there really fast.
The qfg1vga menu was fixed for Wii + touch-based devices on 31.8.2010. ScummVM 1.3 was released 28.5.2011, which means it had the qfg1vga workaround included, but not the one for qfg3 nor the one for Island Of Dr. Brain. It barely appears as it is. I played QFG 1 VGA and the menu worked fine.
I hope that your actual copy of qfg3 is not pirated. The version of QFG 3 that I have is 1.1, and it is in english. That sounds old, lol.... but after doing a websearch and downloading a few QFG3 roms, they all seem to be 1.1.
I just tried a daily build for Wii from this year and it works w/o problems. ScummVM 1.5 seems to have a problem with Wiimotion+ Wiimotes, but I didn't get an exception.

Moving the cursor down fast doesn't work, and I wouldn't quite want to play the whole game like that either.
Putting the nightly build that digitall suggested fixed the menu problem, but after a while, other glitches came up. For example, after 4 days or so, it stopped getting dark at night. It is just daylight all the time now. I've never encountered that glitch in all the times Ive played this game over the years. Interesting!
But unfortunately, the gaming only lasted so long, because the whole wii freezes now when I go to load a saved game, so I'm out of ideas.

I suggest that you post a file listing of your QFG3 datafiles including file MD5sums. This will allow us to eliminate variant or corrupted datafiles as the cause of the issue.
