The Engine "Mohawk"

Here is a question to all you people of ScummVM. Was the engine Mohawk named after the main antagonist from the Warner Bros. movie, Gremlins 2: The New Batch?

Humongousfan: I have no direct information or references for where the name "Mohawk" came from.

Gremline 2 was released in 1990 and Myst in 1993, so it seems a long gap to inspire the name.

I think a more likely reason is that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Br%C3%B8derbund was founded in Eugene, Oregon, which has a large number of references to Mohawk:

I'd suspect that their internal project naming probably used town, city or river names from the local vicinity.

Oh, I get it. The engine "Mohawk" came from the name of the town of Oregon. Oregon is where Broderbund is.

Before this becomes taken "as fact" on the internet, I tried to pore through my notes to find what the meaning was, but failed to at the moment.

However, I'm quite certain it's an acronym for *something*. Mohawk was developed long after their move to California anyway (and developed before Myst and not for Myst either).

I agree, please don't take this as "gospel". If clone2727 doesn't have any notes on this and I can't locate any online history source, I would suggest that the only primary source for the naming would be the ICHEG archive at The Strong Museum of Play:
