Explore the Myst library

Post by bgK »

You stumble upon an old handwritten book. It describes an island world named Myst. When you touch one of its last pages, you are transported to the island. As you explore Myst you learn about its inhabitants Atrus, Catherine and their sons Sirrus and Achenar. You quickly discover each son is trapped in a book.
Will you solve the puzzles of the Myst ages and free them?

The ScummVM Team is proud to announce that Myst and Myst: Masterpiece Edition are now playable in ScummVM using the latest daily builds, and are ready for testing.

Reports of bugs and unknown versions are appreciated. They should go to our bug tracker, and must follow our bug submission guidelines.

You can help us fill our screenshot gallery with captures from your playthrough.

In addition to the main game, the making-of video and the demo version are supported.

Yeah, this is great news.

Note that to get the making-of video working you have to have to copy the files MAKING.DAT and MAKINGOF.MOV to a separate folder. MAKINGOF.MOV has to be inside a folder named MAKING that has to be inside a folder named QTW. This is because of the annoying way the ScummVM launcher works. Or you can just watch MAKINGOF.MOV in VLC.

Keeping the same structure as on the CD should work as well. That is to say making.dat with the other .dat files, and makingof.mov in qtw/making along with the other movies.

But sure, just using a media player is much more flexible.

Yeah, but only if you remove or rename the MYST.DAT file. Otherwise ScummVM will start the full game instead when you pick The Making of Myst in the launcher.

That sounds like a bug. Can you please post it to https://sourceforge.net/p/scummvm/bugs/. Please attach the scummvm log file of the problem, with the mamimum debug level enabled "scummvm -d 9".

Bug report made. I suppose it is more of a feature request, really.

A change had to be made to the way ScummVM names the save files for Myst. Old saves are still compatible, but must be renamed from '[description].mys' and '[description].mym' to 'myst-###.mys' and 'myst-###.mym'. Where '###' is the save slot number. For example 'myst-001.mys' for slot 1.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi all, I wonder if it is possible now or in the future to zoom the screen to see it in fullscreen mode.

Thanks and sorry for my poor English

Hi,

You can enable fullscreen mode in the "Options..." menu. You can toggle between fullscreen and a window using the "Alt+Enter" key combination.

I suggest you try an OpenGL graphics mode in the options, which may result in less black screen space depending on your configuration.

Is the Myst Masterpiece Edition from Steam supported?

It most probably is. And if it is not, it will be easy to add it to ScummVM.
