I have just bought a GPD XD and installed the Scummvm app but am unsure of how I can add games to play on the app. Does anyone know how I can play games on the app¿ I am particularly interested in getting Phantasmagoria

I see that the GPD XD just runs Android 4.4.4 so you should be able to just add games by copying the relevant game datafiles to the device i.e. Install Ghostcommander or similar file manager if the device is not supplied with something and use SMB plugin to mount Windows share and copy game data files over or FTP etc.

Most games are not freeware, so you will need to buy a copy. See:

There are some freeware games supported which you can test with and you can download from our website. I recommend Beneath a Steel Sky or Flight of the Amazon Queen:

Phantasmagoria is not one of them, but it is available via old copies on EBay or similar and via GOG. See:

You will need to mount the supplied disc image and extract the required datafiles as per:

It should be noted that this is a SCI 2+ game and thus you may need a recent release / nightly build to run it well.
