Yes, it could happen... GF is on the short-list for acquisition by the Museum of Modern Art.

I am investigating what it would take to make this happen, but if the pure VM/emulation route turns out not to be possible... Maybe ResidualVM could be a way to expose many more people to GF?

Wow. I'm happy to hear that. Grim Fandango is definitely deserving of that. I hope you manage to get a solution to get it working for the museum, whether it ends up using ResidualVM or another method (although the use of ResidualVM to run it would definitely be neat).
