0.2.0 binaries for Ubuntu 14.04/Mint 17.x

Post by rene »

Hi Guys.

Could I request/suggest 0.2.0 binary releases for Ubuntu 14.04, and hence Mint 17.x?

14.04 is a longterm suport release, and other than this meaning that many Ubuntu users still stick with it, it is also the reason that the Mint 17.x series sticks with the 14.04 base right upto 2019 (!). I'm on Mint 17.1 right now, and although I'll in fact be able to build it myself, Ubuntu and Mint are sort of targetted specifically at those who cannot or will not build stuff. I'm relatively new to the debian/ubuntu/mint universe so I don't know if/how this will then also "automatically" make its way into the ubuntu repositories -- but ResidualVM 0.1.1 is in there; and having downloadable 14.04 deb's right from the site could never hurt the usage at the least.

I suppose you'll get a few new users over the coming days/weeks due to the HD remaster coming out, so this would be nice to have for Mint users...

Rene

Hi, it's possible. You are right, pity :( I didn't backup before upgrade from 14.04, but it's not much of work to setup. I'll keep for the future longterm releases too.
Regarding Mint I can put longterm too. I didn't used Mint before, so I don't know what release cycles they have.

Thanks much for the answer; that will help. I have for now installed 0.1.1 from the Mint 17.1/Ubuntu 14.04 repositories on Linux, and the current daily (0.3.0-something I believe it was) on the Windows 7 dualboot on this machine. "Grim Fandango" seems to be working great in either, "Escape from Monkey Island" in the latter. Thanks for a nice program!

And, yes, Mint actually only started being based on Ubuntu LTS at the current 17.x series. It used to track Ubuntu releases but is in the process of seperating itself from Ubuntu a bit further, even if only to sit out the systemd/upstart/sysvint/wayland/mir/unity/cinnamon/gnome3 <bleep>storm. And at the very least -- that's why *I* am currently using it :)

Seeing the start of Grim Fandango again after some 13 or 14 years certainly made it quite likely that I'll be grabbing the upcoming remaster. It's still a great game...
