Hi Johnny!

It's been a while since I visited this forum or even played GF. Obviously Schafer's GF remastering announcement brought me back here. I was surprised to see new Point&Click mod and new dataUser.lab with even more remastered models.

It's been a busy year. I thought I could help with Android porting since I started working on Android, but my company ditched the mobile app approach, it costs "too much" to make same app in different languages for different mobile OS :D

All work and no play makes me stop working on my side projects. I completely stopped working on those widescreen scenery addons, for which I thought somebody could implement into Residual via dataUsr.lab. I got 10 images completed and 10 images stuck at 75%... and the whole game is like 500 scenes.

But all that fan work will be obsolete, which is kinda sad. All that hard work put in by the fans to reverse engineer the game, debug it, mod it... now DoubleFine has the source files which makes the job 100 times easier, they have functional P&C mod, Domino year 4 bug FOUND and FIXED, new models and textures...

I'm happy they'll remake my favorite game and I'm happy Tim is working on it. As said by Tim on his Twitter: it wont have new puzzles, it wont have new voiceover, it wont be full 3D. It will be that good old game just in high res, high poly, CD audio quality, probably widescreen, with mouse support, maybe even with "switch to old mode" like the Monkey Island had. Multi OS support, digital, hoping with designer document, artbook, soundtrack, poster, toy and ticket to #9.

But the day the Remastered version comes out, this forum will probably die. I just hope they will give all you guys credit or maybe even invite you to appear in Making Of documentary. Since they said they will reach out to the "post release community"... anytime now.

P.S. I just realized that they are not making an Android port... so I guess the forum will live on :D And this guy is making a full 3D remake:
http://myfandango.blogspot.com/

So all that work will not go to waste after all :D

P.P.S. As for UNNAH, my real name is Luka. But everytime i want to register anywhere my name was already taken as username. So one day I read on Wikipedia that DeNiro's role in Cab Driver is defined as ultra neo noir anti hero. Sounded cool and is always free on registration. ThunderPeel is cool too :D

Cool, Luka! I think everyone is happy to help DF in any way they can. Plus it doesn't mean a fan mod will become obsolete.

Where did Tim say all that stuff? I've been wanting to know for ages! Thanks :)

Edit: As in, I've looked through his Twitter and I've not seem him reveal any specifics yet. Quite the opposite, he said they're still going through their options.

I'm not a fan of Tweeter and don't know exactly how it works, but i looked at all Tim's "public" tweets and couldn't find anything... but then someone posted these "private" tweets between Tim and other guys. That's why I don't like tweeter. This images were posted on DoubleFine forum:

There were more, not in img format but someone wrote about the tweets... I just can't find them now.

Hmm. You can see all those Tweets if you select "Tweets and Replies" from the menu on his profile. I think the vote is still out on exactly what will be remastered and what won't be, though.

First post from me here....

I've downloaded and installed RisidualVM from the Google play store link and have successfully launched the game using the .lab files/patch.

The main problem I am having is that I cannot save my game. When I go to the menu and select "save" the screen goes blank and i get a console saying it can't save screenshot.

Also when I open the main menu the background image is just scrambled colours/pixels (may have something to do with GF not being able to save a screenshot since from what I can remember GF has a screenshot of your current gamestate as a BG image when you envoke the main menu)

The game crashes during the opening cutscene if I use software rendering but that's not a huge problem becasue it runs if I turn software rendering off. The only issue I can see from not using software rendering Is that there's no transparency in the textures. This is most noticable when you talk to Glotis and his mouth is solid black.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ps. Big thankyou to the community for keeping this game alive as a huge fan of GF I am so pleased that people care enough about this to keep it playable over a decade later. :D

Hi!
Same here. Latest build from the store. No modifications, just the game.
It crashes when trying to save the game.
The first few levels look fine, but further testing cannot be done without a proper save-load system.
This is a blocking issue I guess.
If you cannot reproduce the issue I'm willing, and maybe even capable of helping.
I'm not an android developer, we work with linux and Qt, but if there is a debug version I could maybe generate a stacktrace or something like that.

Contact me if needed :)

I really love the 0.6 build, the interface feels very native and natural. Did you make any progress on getting the dialogues to work? I'd love to complete the game like this.

1. Join the Google+ group https://plus.google.com/communities/110 ... 3494872374. It's invite only right now so one of us will have to approve you. Google+ is the only way to do this unfortunately.
2. Once you are in the group you need to opt into the beta at https://play.google.com/apps/testing/or ... residualvm
3. The app will then be available at https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... residualvm

If it crashes, hit the report button as we will then get the bug report.

If you have the current debug app installed, you will have to remove it first as the key is different than the Google Play version.
Can somebody invite me, please?
I've clicked the link to apply, "Bob Gadelha" is my user name on Google+, "RGadelha" here, in the forums.

Thanks!

EDIT:
Thanks a lot!
I'm already in :D

EDIT 2:
I've tested it a bit but, the first time I've tried to save, CRASH!
The emulator opened a console... Well, no save for me.

Saving should work with the latest build, actually. Does the console say anything useful?
