Games i want ResidualVM to Support

Post by IgoreshaZhu »

Hi! I'm Igor, new ResidualVM fan.

I made a video about my suggestions on which games should work on ResidualVM:

https://youtu.be/W16fowIf580

ResidualVM should support engines likes PhoenixVR (Dracula, Amerzone, Louvre: The Final Curse, Necronomicon, Cameron Files, etc.), Virtools (Road to India, Syberia, Post Mortem, Still Life, Jack The Ripper, Forever Worlds), Omni3D (Versailles, Egypt, Salammbo), Cryogen, CINview, Granny 3D, etc. I forgot some games likes Traitors Gate, The Forgotten: It Begins, Secrets of the Luxor, Crystal Key, Paris 1313, Midnight Nowhere, Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Silver Earring, Myst IV: Revelation, Journeyman Project 3, etc.
Some fanatics have bad ideas, for example, someone wants action games by LucasArts likes Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire and Star Wars Jedi Knight or action games that similar to Tomb Raider or Little Big Adventure. I doubt it is worth starting to work on first person RPGs likes TES, Lands of Lore, etc. or survival horror games likes Resident Evil, Dino Crisis and Martian Gothic, and some engines like Lithtech. Same goes with Uru - Ages Beyond Myst and Myst V: End of Ages. And every modern game by Telltale, Fenimore Fillmore the Westerner, Broken Sword 4, Ankh, etc. I don't want this emulator to support the worst games likes Mystery of the Druids, every awfulness by Cryo, Arxel Tribe and Artematica & Simon the Sorcerer 3D, of course!

We need volunteers to port these games.

Do you have any idea which games use the same (or similar) engines?
Typically this means we only have to do (hard, slow) reverse engineering work once to get several games working at once.

Journey to Center of the Earth and Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Silver Earring had same engine.
Myst IV engine is similar to Myst III.
PhoenixVR Engine used in Amerzone, Cameron Files, Dracula: Resurrection, Louvre: The Final Curse and Mystery of the Mummy.

How similar are they, really? I thought they were developed by different companies.

I know that these games are made by different developers. I meant that there is the same graphics as the previous part

CryoEngine is already being developed under ScummVM, and Versailles is the first official game supported. So, the next logical iteration sould be the China or atlantis lost tales, being practically the same version of the engine.

Speaking of similar engines, I wanted to ask - as I know Grim Fandago using parts of Sith engine for rendering of 3D objects, how complex would be add other games that also use parts of full Sith engine? Like Star Wars: Droid Works, Jedi Knight I Dark Forces 2, Mysteries of the Sith, Indiana Johnes and Fate of Atlantis, Episode I: The Phantom Menace etc.
