Which games would you like to be supported on the future?

All the inane chatter goes in here. If you're curious about whether we will support a game, post HERE not in General Discussion :)

That one's partially working, but I haven't heard of anyone working to improve it. See https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Illusions

I understand that what engines that are added to ScummVM rest entirely on whichever individual chooses to take up the mantle, but has anyone ever considered adding the "Desktop Adventures" engine to ScummVM? The two games Indiana Jones and his Desktop Adventures and Star Wars Yoda Stories. It seems to fall in the realm of adventure/puzzle and am surprised nobody really brought them up. They were received very well, but I love these little games. They're like mini-roguelites but way ahead of their time. Movement and combat is a little cumbersome and frustrating, but the puzzles and fetch quests are kind of fun to waste a bit of your time on. Yoda Stories even allows you to track your progress every game you play and the more games you play yields more rewards (like a new lightsaber for Luke after 5 missions, etc). Fun little games and I'd love to see them added to ScummVM.

I've run across this blog/website before in the past where someone took it upon themselves to reverse engineer Yoda Stories specifically to try and rip out the art and audio assets with successful results. He also went a little further and found how each of the 600 "zone" screens are stored. These screens make up the randomly generated maps that each New Game creates. Really interesting. I'm not near experienced enough but perhaps someone out there might be? It seems like there's a lot to go on at least in terms of reading the resource assets here: https://www.trashworldnews.com/yoda-stories/

Also, a good reason to add support would be that Indy Desktop Adventure particularly is a 16-bit application that doesn't run in modern 64-bit OS's. Yoda Stories is 32-bit and does. Both of these run just fine with something like OTVDM of course, but it'd be even better to have it in ScummVM and portable to more platforms that way. So this is my plea to some wonderful person looking for a project that may feel interested in taking this on :) (if work hasn't already been done to this effect for ScummVM already).

*cough* https://github.com/digitall/scummvm-deskadv ... Still very much WIP and not playable.

https://github.com/shinyquagsire23/DesktopAdventures is playable, but not ScummVM.

necrobump, as i would like to see this implemented at some point too :)

the few files structure it does seems very SCI type like

RESOURCE.MAP, RESOURCE.001 and audio files

If/when ScummVM eventually supports Macromedia Director 5, I would be delighted to see support for the Swedish game Kosmopolska, an adventure/RTS hybrid. It might be especially tricky to get working since it uses Director for the adventure segments, and a separate engine programmed in C++ for the RTS sections. Jumping between the two parts often caused the game to crash, even when running on intended hardware. I would love to be able to play the game on a modern machine without having worry about those old bugs.

The list of Director games on the ScummVM wiki has several Swedish games on it, but I noticed that Kosmopolska is missing from the list.

Hello everyone, happy new year !
Sorry, definitely not in the right section but I would love a demake of "In cold blood" using the SCI engine or others.

Happy new year everyones here on ScummVm.org /Discord!

I would like to see the INTERSPECTIVE engine supported (Engine developer Rafał Rzepecki)
because of 3x awesome point & click retro gems that a lots of gamers have requested in the past.

Ive learned tonight that the last attemp to support the engine was made 11 YEARS ago !

is it technically possible now in 2024 with the new developments and maybe with AI (ChatGPT) devs support to make this game engine supported by ScummVM ?

One of those AI chatbots recently told me that Joe Biden used to be Donald Trump's vice president. Another time, it assured me that an out-of-print book was very much in print, and that it had personally called the publisher to confirm this. (Likely story, half an hour before midnight on a Saturday evening.) I don't think I'd dare to trust them on anything... I was going to say "important", but let's just leave it at "anything". :)
