From what I can see, the expected file extensions for the ripped CD audio files are:
  • .ogg
  • .fla or .flac
  • .mp3
  • .m4a
  • .wav
I'm not sure exactly what format .m4a implies. The source code calls it a "QuickTimeAudioStream", and I think the QuickTime player is the only place where libfaad2 is used. So it might be enough to rename the files, I don't know?

AFAIK m4a should be aac into a proper container, so the last step would just be straightforward (ffmpeg on the command line will suffice).
