Freeware graphic adventures that could port to ScummVM,,,

Post by Dex Valkish »

Hi ScummVM Community!

For some time now I wanted to make a small post about graphic adventures that have currently been
released as Freeware by their original authors and I think they could be ported more easily to ScummVM
due to copyright...

Skaut Kwatermaster:

A Polish graphic adventure from the L.K. Avalon which was ported to MS-DOS and Commodore Amiga. Both
versions have long been released by their original authors for free download.

MS-DOS version in the L.K. Avalon original website (Note: the program is contained in an installer:
but it still runs natively in MS-DOS... The program in question is at the bottom of the page where
it says "Skaut"):

https://web.archive.org/web/20061108234 ... ?dzial=dow

Amiga version in the Polish Portal of Amiga (The archives was donated as freeware by the L.K. Avalon):

https://www.ppa.pl/rodzynki/skaut-kwatermaster.html

Aqua:

Graphic adventure ported for Commodore Amiga and MorphOS. For some time now its author released it as
freeware on its original website. Note: the original download page is down: but the downloadable files
can be accessed from the Aminet repository (the original autor was uploaded the files here)...

Original Website (download down):

https://web.archive.org/web/20110123190 ... index.html

Aminet repository (the files in question are: "Aqua_1.lha", "Aqua_2.lha", "Aqua_3.lha" & "Aqua_4.lha"):

http://aminet.net/search?query=aqua

The Adventures of Maddog Williams in the Dungeons of Duridian:

Native MS-DOS graphic adventure, it has been available for download as freeware from its authors' website
for some time now:

Original Website of MDW:

http://www.gamecrafters.com/gamecrafters/maddog/

In the Dead of Night:

An antique graphic adventure native to MS-DOS released by Trecision. Commercially published in 1995, "In the
Dead of Night" became freeware in 2000 to promote the publication of The Watchmaker. Since then, it can be
downloaded legally from Adventurearchiv.

Adventurearchiv website (Note: he file in question is an installer: but it can still be unzipped with a 7-Zip
type tool if the system is not compatible with it):

https://web.archive.org/web/20160306145 ... wnload.htm

If you know of other freeware graphic adventures that could be ported to ScummVM, don't hesitate to mention them...

Thanks for reading this post and best wishes to ScummVM Community!

It is not possible to "port" a game to ScummVM unless we have access to the original source code.

If you help arrange that, then the chances of the game being implemented on the ScummVM platform are much higher.
