Hello guys,
i once helped with few translation lines for The Prince and the Coward but that was a prpject already started and i just had to open the file and easy translate some dialogues.
This time i want to do a translation from scratch for 1 1/2 Ritter which i thought would be a good game to have in english for those who dont speak German
Being a wintermute game, how can i extract the game scripts and start working on it, if its even possible of course.
Thanks

The best way is via Weblate translation, sev can say more about that. However, the game contains a few graphics with German texts.
For testing I extracted the file data.dcp with QuickBMS:
https://aluigi.altervista.org/quickbms.htm
https://aluigi.altervista.org/bms/wintermute.bms
The texts are contained in the file string3.tab.
Example: quickbms.exe wintermute.bms [input_folder\data.dcp] [output_folder]

Re: Ritter game translation
Oh thats exactly what i needed sir, thanks a lot!
I was going crazy to find the correct tool, i did try Gobread (after looking all the web for the .exe since all the links were down being 10 years old) only to find out that it doesnt work on 64 bit os xD
Will start asap unpacking the data.
I need both tools for that i assume isnt?
Thanks again m8

Re: Ritter game translation
Please note the following:
However, the best way is still via ScummVM-Weblate, so that the translation file is also installed later via ScummVM (e.g. ritter.dat). But a developer must decided whether this is possible.Features:
open source and multiplatform, tested on Windows (even Win98) and GNU/Linux (x86 and PPC)

I see, yes that would be perfect so anyone could simply just paste the .dat inside the folder and just play.
Anyway thats what we can at least start with for now, i already unpacked the files and i got the scripts.
Lets say i already have it translated, changing every German word with the english translation, can i repack it as data.dcp?

Re: Ritter game translation
I don't know if repacking works with QuickBMS. Ritter [en] will probably not be workable with ScummVM because of the missing checksum.

Re: Ritter game translation
It can be done, i just tested and it works perfectly, i simply reinjected the string3.tab (which i previously modified with Notepad++) inside data.dcp with Quickbms rebuild command and the game simply show the text which i wrote down before.
So what i can do now is start translating everything inside the .tab file in english and rebuild the file after that.
Thanks again for the tips and the tools, Mustrum

Re: Ritter game translation
EDIT: Ok even better, theres not even need for the tool to reinject the string3.tab inside data.dcp; you can just toss it inside the game folder as it is and scummvm will read that over the data inside the container.
This is even better for testing purpose when it comes to translate all those lines
So once you extract data.dcp files you can then modify the text inside string3.tab with Notepad++ and just copy your new translated file as it is inside the game folder and scummvm will do the magic xD
