Going back to your original post, I loaded up my last game save and I think I'm at the same location as you possibly. I'm at Ketch's Landing where I'm looking for 2 of the 3 stones. This isn't going to really help but the sound and speech seem to be fine here, I've compressed my files using OGG format. Have you tried compressing your data files? If there's something screwed up with the speech2.clu file then the compressing utility will report an error I guess.

Okay, let's try this. Please, attach your scummvm config file (scummvm.ini) and recursive list of your BS directory with exact file sizes.

I removed the following folders and all files recently to see if it made a difference from something that someone suggested in previous posts:

Smacks : From CD
Sword2 : From CD
Clusters : From CD

Thank You - Wo33er

P.S the line "extrapath=I:\Games\Broken Sword 2\Clusters\" has been added for testing since this thread, i began with the problem without the "extra" path

Umm, I need something like this:

Code: Select all

drwxr-xr-x 2 sev wheel 1024 Sep 17 18:46 CLUSTERS
-rw-r--r-- 1 sev wheel 132096 Aug 22 1997 Credits.exe
-rw-r--r-- 1 sev wheel 206848 Sep 5 1997 Profile.exe

-rw-r--r-- 1 sev wheel 390 Sep 4 1997 Startup.inf
-rw-r--r-- 1 sev wheel 5757 Aug 4 1997 cd.bin

drwxr-xr-x 2 sev wheel 1024 Mar 14 2004 video
But longer and recursive.

Not everybody knows what recursion is, I'd think?

The odd thing is that it appears to be trying to play the speech from speech1.clu, not speech2.clu. I wonder what could be causing that.

Thinking aloud for a while...

It determines which file to use by asking the resource manager which is the current CD. When the resource manager is first initialized, the _curCd variable is set to 1, but whenever a resource is read it checks to see if it's associated with a particular CD. (Some resources are assumed to always be available. They do not affect this.)

The information about which resource file comes from which CD is stored in the cd.inf file. If you bring up the Broken Sword 2 debug console (by pressing Ctrl-D), type "res" and press Enter, you should see the following list:

Code: Select all

SCRIPTS.CLU HD
Pyramid2.clu CD 2
General.clu HD
Carib1.clu CD 2
Carib2.clu CD 2
Pyramid1.clu CD 2
Carib3.clu CD 2
Players.clu HD
Warehous.clu CD 1
Paris.clu CD 1
Jungle.clu CD 2
Quaramon.clu CD 1
Docks.clu CD 1
TEXT.CLU HD
4146 resources
Or at least something close to it. Specifically, if it claims that Jungle.clu and Carib1.clu are anywhere else than on CD 2, something is strange about your cd.inf file. Or possibly resource.inf.

I've tried re-creating the directory structure described above, but it still works for me. You do have a lot of unnecessary files there, though, so to clean up/save disk space, you could:
  • Remove the "Smacks" sub-folder. ScummVM doesn't play the original cutscenes.
  • Remove the "Clusters" sub-folder. You already have all those files in the main folder, except for vielogo.tga which isn't used by ScummVM. (The "Clusters" folder also seems to have two copies of the music file from CD 2, but that shouldn't cause any problem.
  • Remove the "Sword2" sub-folder. You already have cd.inf and startup.inf in the main folder.
That still doesn't explain the problem, of course. At least, I don't think removing these will make any difference.

Well, what if he added the subdirectory "clusters" instead of the main directory to the ScummVM launcher?

He could have done that by entering the Broken Sword 2 directory and clusters being marked than before clicking "OK" in the launcher....

Then he would have problems because the duplicate files in "clusters" subdirectory aren't according to necessary name-conventions in ScummVM.....

Not according to the scummvm.ini he posted. What I don't understand is why it appears to think it's still on CD 1...

Maybe an idea may be to delete everything including ScummVM and scummvm.ini. Reinstall only the data files required from the CD's to a new directory and try again.

I've added some debugging messages which could possibly help track down the problem. They should be in the next daily snapshot, or at the very least the one after that.

Starting ScummVM from a command line at debug level 3 (i.e. the -d 3 command-line option) or higher should then produce a bunch of messages like:

Code: Select all

Loaded resource 'Brn52WK' from CD 2
Loaded resource 'Brn52LK' from CD 2
Loaded resource 'Brn52WK2' from CD 2
Loaded resource 'Text Resource 1541' from CD 2
Playing speech from CD 2
It's when a resource is loaded that the "current CD" variable is updated, so the most recent "Loaded resource" message will tell where the next speech or music will be played from. So it might help if you could try this and post the last few messages, including the "Loaded resource" and "Playing speech" messages, where it fails to play the speech.

In other words, you do not have to post the entire output from running the game. :)

I assume you install it, just like you would install the stable version. But I don't run the Windows version myself, so I couldn't say for sure.
