Hmm... Now I'm able to recreate it even when every possible file is present. I filed a bug for it: 3293963

That's why I said "In General". :D I believe some of the .drv files are required for two 'old' versions (LSL2 and KQ4?) of early SCI games, but other than that, they're not needed.

Indeed. They're only needed for LSL2 old, KQ4 old and the XMAS88 demo

Problems: Game is (almost) completable.

Game crashes after havning solved the final riddle (bookcase) as soon as dr. brain enters the room.

Bugreport filed under 3299458

EDIT: Version 1.3.0pre37-gcfa4051 is running about one second
longer...
