The Feeble Files
Moderator: ScummVM Team
Wow,
There has been so much progress since the last time i checked! I can walk around, take stuff, move back and forth..Great!
Even the oracle works! Somehow i think that was a hard part...
I have a small question. In the 17 april Subversion build the voices don't work, it says it cannot load a sound file. Is that just a glitch or do i have to change a setting?
Regards,
Tinkerer

Any re-encoded cutscenes would be too large to redistribute, even if we had permission from Adventure Soft.oduverne wrote: Could you add support for reencoded cutscenes as you did in broken sword?
I know that you're not allowed to supply reencoded cutscenes but you could supply us a method to tell us how to do it (i think that a guide was written to do this with broken sword)
The best idea for re-encoded cutscenes, would be for someone to create a utility to convert AVI files to the DXA format, which is used by the videos in Amiga and Macintosh versions of the Feeble Files.
Then it would be possible to dump Smacker files to AVI using Rad Video Tools and convert to DXA format. We already have WIP support for the DXA format in ScummVM SVN.
You will need to rename the speech files, since the game is split over several CDs:Tinkerer wrote:Wow,

Rename voices.wav on CD1 to voices1.wav
Rename voices.wav on CD2 to voices2.wav
Rename voices.wav on CD3 to voices3.wav
Rename voices.wav on CD4 to voices4.wav

The Feeble Files should be quite playable now, I would be interested to know how far people can go.
Saved games from the original version can be used, as long as they are renamed to feeble.00x (Where x is the slot).

There is currently no encoder for the DXA format, I was hoping someone might be interested in creating an encoder.FeebleFiles1 wrote:How to make this dxa format? which encoder should we use under windows?

Are you using the latest daily snapshot (20060418) of ScummVM? the vertical scrolling issues should have been fixed yesterday.FeebleFiles1 wrote:You want know how far i came? i came to cygnus alpha without any problems but in cygnus alpha itself there is a vertical scrolling error then i cant go down to the last camera an hide them with this meal i got in the kitchen

I have the Amiga german/english speech version of Feeble Files
http://www.rune-soft.com/englisch/Proje ... /text.html
It can still be bought from some dealers, like
SoftHut (USA) http://tinyurl.com/k7lwz or Vesalia (Germany) http://tinyurl.com/g8cxu
No, this is no plug
I have a request for supporting this Amiga version, there is different naming of the files and they
are divided over different dirs, e.g. 0081.vga which is used by the latest build i don't have.

The Amiga version is already supported by ScummVM, make sure the following data files are located in the main directory, for game detection to work correctly:Raziel wrote:I have a request for supporting this Amiga version, there is different naming of the files and they

I own all ports of the Feebles Files, only the Macintosh version is currently not working, due to audio issue.
Unfortunately the audio and video quality is much worse in the Amiga version, compared to Macintosh and PC versions.

@Kirben
Works now, after copying all of the files to one single directory, thanks
Or did i get somtething wrong?
If video of PC/MAC is/will be supported where can i buy a version?
I want the best quality in the games i can get, if possible.
Thanks, btw saving an original save file locks ScummVM when going into Oracle and trying to quit.
(One cannot choose YES or NO to quit and anything else doesn't work either!)
edit: Adventure soft still selling PC version, is MAC better?
edit2: The video sequences are audio-out-of-sync

Does that mean PC/MAC version has better video/audio, but video cannot be used due to copyright?Unfortunately the audio and video quality is much worse in the Amiga version, compared to Macintosh and PC versions.

The Amiga version used 384 x 280 for videos, compared to 640 x 480 for videos in the Macintosh and PC versions.Raziel wrote:Does that mean PC/MAC version has better video/audio, but video cannot be used due to copyright?

The Amiga and Macintosh versions used 11025Hz for all audio in the game, compared to 22050Hz for all audio in the PC versions.
The only advantage of the Macintosh version, is that it includes four languages (English, French, German and Spanish) with speech for all languages.
The Amiga and Macintosh versions of the Feeble Files are missing the videos shown for the television, when Feeble is held prisoner at Cygnus Alpha too. I wonder why they had to be removed from the game.
There are two PC versions of the Feeble Files, the original 4CD version and the more recent 2CD version, the later used improved compression for video, in order to reduce their size. I'm not sure if there is any visible difference between the two PC version, due to compression.
The PC versions of the Feeble Files use the Smacker format for videos, so they can't be supported at the moment. Smacker support in ScummVM will depend on how the recent Smacker support in ffmpeg goes in the long term.
So there is currently no perfect version of the Feeble Files, when playing under ScummVM. But the PC version would be the best choice, especially since someone is working on a DXA encoder, so should be possible to convert Smacker files in the future..
Unfortunately I can't reproduce this issue.Raziel wrote:btw saving an original save file locks ScummVM when going into Oracle and trying to quit.

That is a known issue, there is currently no attempt at audio and video sync.Raziel wrote:edit2: The video sequences are audio-out-of-sync

The Amiga version i have here only has German end English speech on it, subtitles i don't know
Also i hope this "tool" will be available to non Windows users too, or at least the .dxa'ed movie sequences
Yea, me neither, so lets drop the subject, seemed to be another causeKirben wrote:Unfortunately I can't reproduce this issue.

Is the issue with scrolling Save games up and down in Oracle triggering font glitches a known issue, then?
