MT-32 Support

Post by qweilun »

Hello all, I just got MT-32 working on Monkey Island 2 for the first time. It sounds quite decent but I can tell something's not right.

I've looked over the post at http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=9138 but wasn't able to reply for some reason.

Has there been any progress on MT-32 support, and what remains to be done?
Do I have the correct ROM files, and if not, how do I legally obtain correct ones? My ROM files' md5sums are:

5626206284b22c2734f3e9efefcd2675 MT32_CONTROL.ROM
89e42e386e82e0cacb4a2704a03706ca MT32_PCM.ROM

Thanks for the help.

By the way, the specific issue I noticed was that some, but not all instruments seem to be following incorrect ADSR envelopes.

For example:

In the intro music, the voice playing the main melody sustains or releases for much too long so everything sounds washed out. It doesn't sound nearly as good as:

In the town on Scabb Island, there seems to be an accordion playing notes 50-100 ms long. That sounds quite awkward.

In general, bass is quiet or absent, it's hard to tell.

I don't know how out of date the emulator in ScummVM is, but there has been significant progress made on the Munt emulator, but it is still a work in progress. If you wish ask specific questions about the emulator, you can find the developers in this thread on VOGONS.

I guess I'm out of luck in that case. I had a look at the munt website and it's only for windows.

Unless someone had the time and energy to port Munt to linux... :)

No, you are not out of luck. You just have to wait. Munt is being developed for both Mac and Linux, too. Besides, it is just a matter of time before it gets updated for ScummVM, too.

Wait so where did you get those ROMs?
The legal way to obtain them is from an MT-32.

Don't ask, don't tell. Forum rule #0.
