I hope I'll be forgiven the plug, but I figured this might be of interest for many here.
A site I contribute to, Hardcore Gaming 101, has recently compiled a book on classic graphic adventures. With 300 game introductions on 772 pages and a couple of developer interviews, the book focuses on the pre-2000 period (though with some more recent exceptions where we figured it'd make sense, like the Telltale-LucasArts sequels or Jane Jensen's Gray Matter).
The print version so far is only available in the US (the assumption is it will eventually show up in other countries, too), but there's also a kindle version which can be ordered from the UK and German Amazon sites.
