Leisure suit larry 5

Post by diesoft »

Hey, guys. Long time listener, first time caller ;)

I have recently been playing through the Leisure suit larry games and had no trouble with the first four LSL games (especially number 4, eeeeasy). However, the 5th game, while plays fine at first has a weird issue. Since I've never played the 5th game, I can only assume what I do next is what I'm supposed to do in the game and an error comes up instead.
When I go to buy a ticket at the airport, a debug screen pops up. I've noticed this seems to be happening with VGA sierra games (I've noticed on the forum, anyway) and wondered if there was a workaround or it's something only affecting me?

It would probably help to know what the error message was, and which version of ScummVM it is. (Both the version number and, in some cases, the operating system may make a difference.)

Latest stable build of scummvm 1.5. The error message was "ERROR: invalid export function pointer!"

I am running windows 7 ultimate service pack 1.

I will be happy to tell more if needed :)

diesoft:
That occurs from the function uint32 Script::validateExportFunc(int pubfunct, bool relocSci3) in the SCI engine.

Can you please describe your exact version i.e. Floppy or CD, Language and any markings/Serial Number from the disk/CD.

Also please post a file listing of your LSL5 datafiles with the associated file MD5sums here. The output of a tool such as http://md5summer.org/ would be optimal. This will help us identify your exact version and eliminate corrupted datafiles as the cause of this.

Could you also try running the same datafiles with the latest ScummVM development nightly build from here:
http://buildbot.scummvm.org/builds.html
And report if the same behaviour is observed.
This will help us eliminate any outdated bugs fixed since v1.5.0 release.

This is a known bug that occurs from hacked game scripts, used in order to bypass the ticket screen. We have a wiki section for these bugs:
http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/SCI/Pirate_Bugs

We won't fix this bug, as it's clearly caused by an attempt to bypass the game's copy protection. Please do not file a bug report about this, rather delete the hacked scripts and use your manual to continue normally through this screen.
