Hi, I'd like to know when You will add support for Special Edition of the first two Monkey Island PC adventures, even with Italian subtitles, and update the data game file for these two remakes.
The first two Monkey Islands are great, and the remakes deserves a good consideration, since they have better audio and graphic, more "modern", and they even have got classic versions inside them!!!

The classic versions are playable, with some fiddling from the users themselves:

Or if you want the classic version with the SE voices look here http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=9161
The list of supported platforms is significantly longer for ScummVM than it is for either Special Edition. The latter don't even include a single non-proprietary desktop OS.Ingsoc wrote:Since there is no problem running the SE on modern system, why would you need ScummVM to support them?
And "modern" is such a volatile term: It has been an exceptionally long life cycle for their generation of consoles but finally, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are on their way out. Microsoft is a little more interested in backward compatibility in their desktop OS than Apple is but ultimately change is the only constant. Modern systems become obsolete systems quite fast and to keep running software designed for obsolete systems on new modern systems, the software needs to be updated or a compatibility layer of some sort employed.
According to MobyGames, that means upwards of 5 different platform versions of software to keep up to date for each Special Edition, each new batch of modern systems. How many new purchases of the titles are expected in, say the next 10 years? Is there a commercial incentive to keep updating those old 2009-2010 titles because that would seem like the only applicable one from the software business perspective.
At this point the route of an open-source, constantly in-development compatibility layer project manned by software enthusiasts starts to sound tempting. Having ScummVM support the titles would mean just that much more certainty in being able to run the games you bought and own no problem, on the platforms of your choice, in the FUTURE…
