I am trying to play i have no mouth and i must scream, but it gives me the following error and closes instantly:

I don't have a soundboard i am going to be unable to buy one in a long time, so don't start with the "but is cheap on e-bay" thing, for now i only want to know if i can start the game without one.

No, and I would suggest that you check your Motherboard closely as any MB manufactured after 2001 should have a basic integrated audio codec:

If your Motherboard lacks this, then I would suggest looking here for a USB or PCI card:

It's not in the documentation, but it may be possible to set the SDL_AUDIODRIVER environment variable to dummy. How to set environment variables depends on the operating system.
