virtual keyboard on samsung tab pro

Post by pla »

Hi, im having problems with the virtual keyboard on my samsung tabpro. Normally i should hold the menu button for 0,5 seconds but the new tabpro doesnt have a menu button, just a task manager button. If i push this i first get the taskmanager and if i hold it for a bit longer, i get the scumm menu. No matter how long i hold it, i never get the keyboard. This is very annoying because without keyboard no save games.
How can i solve this problem? Its not possible to change the tabpro setting for the button itself in android eg changing it from task manager to menu button.

Hello,
Also playing on Note Pro 12 and same problem with keyboard. It would be nice to have access to the keyboard in a new build. A workaround is to not enter any text for the name of the backup. Leaving it empty allows me to save and load anyways. By the way, did you download the nightly build and not the one provided on Google Play? It allows to use the Spen when ticking a case in the midi settings...

Hello again,
I also found this version:
http://anddev.at.ua/load/scummvm_svn55436/1-1-0-7
It supports keyboards and has a lot of options, among which graphics interpolation which work fine. However, whatever the chosen options, movement of the pointer inside the game is not really smooth, contrary to the official version. I tried to change the options but it does not improve this. If you find a solution please let me know.

I downloaded the official version from the play store. Ill check out the nightly version but since i have the tab pro i dont have the S pen. Leaving save game box empty doesnt seem to work i every game, at least not in "i want to scream but i dont have a mouth" game. Was thinking of maybe making a couple of fake save games files and overwriting them from within the game.

I hope scummVM will come up with a more permanent solution in a new build...

pla: The version on the Google Play store is outdated ie.. v1.5.0. The reasons for this are detailed in the thread below:
http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=12624

You should uninstall the Play version and install the latest stable i.e. v1.6.0 from the buildbot or the latest v1.7.0git development build:
http://buildbot.scummvm.org/builds.html

There are some pitfalls with this. Please see that thread and http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Android#Daily_Builds for details.

Have taken a look at the relevant code and I'm not at all sure if the Virtual Keyboard support has ever worked... or when/if it has got broken. If a user could try installing the toolchain and then working back through the release builds and see if this is a regression and when it occurred... then we may be able to fix this.

The entire Android input system is a bit of a nightmare... Patches to correct issues are welcome.
