Newbie: ScummVM on iPad without Jailbreak?

Post by linpol »

Hi Guys,

is there a way to play ScummVM on the current PadOs (iPad Pro) without Jailbreak?
I've found this guide: https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Comp ... mVM/iPhone

Before I try to follow these instructions i got some questions:
1. Does it work on the new PadOs?
2. Is it right that ScummVM will only work for 7 days?
3. If its doesnt work after 7 days, is it hard to "recompile" the scummvm app? How long does this take?
I havent done this before so i cannot imagine how much work this and how long it takes if you're a newbie.

Thanks a lot for your help.

1. I don't know for sure as I am not familiar with iPadOS but I think it should work.
2. Yes, that is correct (unless you have a paid Apple Developer account).
3. If you are recompiling the same version (and not updating to the latest source code) it s very easy and fast. You just have to connect your iPad to your computer, open the ScummVM.xcodeproj again, and hit the play button (to compile and deploy ScummVM to your iPad again). Since it should have kept the result of the previous compilation, it actually doesn't have anything to recompile, so it should be a lot faster than the first compilation.

@criezy thanks for the quick answer.

1.) great i will try it. Has the guide everything what i need in it? or is there something you would recommend?
2.) what happens with the save states? and the games? do they also need to be uploaded again?

Yes, I think the compilation instructions on the wiki should have everything you need, although it may lack some details for some of the steps.

When you rebuild ScummVM, the one on your iPad will be updated and keep all the games and save states you have. Those are only lost if you remove the ScummVM app from your iPad.
