Feeble Files - Pirated copy?

Post by Raziel »

Hello gang,

maybe someone can shed some light.

I bought a copy of Feeble Files (2 CD Windows version) on eBay
and installed it as suggested in the ScummVM documentation.

Now as i tried to add the game it couldn't find it.

Regarding the docs i need:

*.VGA
GAME22
save.999
TABLES*
TBLLIST
Rename voices.wav on CD1 to voices1.wav
Rename voices.wav on CD2 to voices2.wav

to be installed on HD to play FF.

Problem is i don't have GAME22, save.999, TABLES* or TBLLIST

I do have the rest of the files plus a bunch of Smacker files, which
i copied over, too (Yes, i know i may never be able to use them, but
i need them for converting later on)

Now, what do it do, is this a special release where i have to install it on
a Windos peecee first to get the files needed or is it a somewhat pirated version?
(Which i really don't hope!)

Both of the CD's are named "THE_FEEBLE_FILES"

Help!

Ciao

I added a note about this to the README recently, so I'll just quote what I wrote there:

"more than 300 files, most of them necessary for the game to run, are stored in a file called data1.cab. ScummVM does not know how to unpack this file, so you will probably have to let the original installer do it."

Don't worry. Your copy looks like a usual 2CD release. Those files are in data1.cab. Just extract it.

There are other tools to extract files from CABs. I'm sure sev has given a link before but for the life of me I can't remember it.

Looking at Google, there's a UNiX program called cabextract, it seems to run on lots of OS, so try this.

I haven't been able to extract the contents of the file with any of the tools I've tried. Apparently others have had the same problem too.

Heh, cool

problem is, i'm on Amiga, therefore none of Unix/PC/Mac proggies will run

There ARE two programs (unshield and cabextrac - which may be a port of this unix version),
both of them can't handle this .cab file

I bug a PC guy about it :-)

Thanks for the help

cabextract only works with with cabinet-files from MS. The cab's on most install cd's are created with the InstallShield soft. For these cabinet-files you can use unshield under unix: http://sourceforge.net/projects/synce/

The i5comp utility for Windows is able to extract the data1.cab file included with the Feeble Files too.

The i5comp21.rar package of i5comp, includes the source code. So might be possible to compile that source code on other systems, with changes.
