Installing EFMI Patch

Hi, I currently have done everything for installing EFMI with Residual VM. The only problem is, I can't install the patch. I get the exe, but when I try to run it, it says it can't find the files, and I need to install the game from the CD. But that is why I need RVM, because I can't install it from the disc. Am I being really stupid and missing something?

It's sufficient to put the patch exe in the installation directory, no need to apply it.
