http://games.playazlounge.net/ has tools to edit several aspects of Might & Magic IV+V, including one to create new portraits. These take the form of .fac files that, as far as I can tell, act as overrides for the matching portrait in the .cc archives that contain the game data.
I've got some custom portraits working in the game in DOSbox, but not ScummVM. Are these overrides supported, and if so how do I get them to work? If not, might this change in a future build?
Does the M&M 4-5 / XEEN engine support modded files?

If the modded changes aren't immediately visible in ScummVM, you might want to look at the create_xeen tool. It prepares some constant data and resources from the game files for convenience in being able to play Clouds, Dark Side, or Swords. The faces data might be one of them.
Otherwise, it's unlikely any further development will be done on the Xeen engine unless someone comes forward and volunteers to do the work themselves.
