Post by TDocktor »

Hi,

What are some good point and click games where the hotspots are highlighted when you press a certain kay?

Kelvin and the Infamous Machine
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition
Broken Age
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened

I did not play Broken Age, but Google says it has hotspots display.

From the ones I've played (that I can remember off the top of my head):
  • The Dream Machine (hold SPACE to show hotspots)
  • Monkey Island 2: Special Edition (hold right and left mouse buttons at the same time -- works on most scenes, but not while on map).
Note: The Special Edition of the first title (The Secret of the Monkey Island) does not seem to have this feature.
  • Full Throttle (Remastered) (hold SHIFT to highlight hotspots)
  • Day of the Tentacle (Remastered) (hold SHIFT to highlight hotspots)
  • Thimbleweed Park (hold Tab to show hotspots in current scene)
Note: "Delores: A Thimbleweed Park Mini-Adventure" does not seem to have this mechanic.
  • Return to Monkey Island (hold Tab to show hotspots)
  • Unavowed (Hold right mouse button for a few seconds)
Edit: I've quickly installed and tested Full Throttle Remastered, Day of the Tentacle Remastered, and Grim Fandango Remastered. The first two have a hot key to highlight interactive spots. Grim Fandango Remastered does not.

Thanks. Unavowed especially seems interesting. It has one hell of a metacritic rating.

Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2 show hotspots briefly if you press F10. If I remember correctly this was originally just in the second game, but ScummVM adds it to the first game as well. (I just noticed that it doesn't pick a good color for the CD32 version of Simon the Sorcerer 1, so that will have to be fixed. Judging by the demo, the regular Amiga version works fine though.)
