Curse of Monkey Island - Crashes early in SCUMMVM

Post by MJavert »

Hey guys, really appreciate everything you do here to make the old games live on...I recently dug up my old copy of COMI and tried to play it...I followed the 2-cd fix described here in the forums and copied everything to the HD and used SCUMMVM. But right after the second cutscene where LeChuck's ship is capsized by the VooDoo cannonball, something goes screwy.

The game runs fine except when you try to look at or pick up anything where it crashes. It crashes with this message:

(12:363:0x2B76): BundleMgr::loadCompTable() Compressed sound 2886 invalid (XQB<>)

I would run with just the regular CD's and not SCUMMVM, however, the cutscenes go by really fast and it just dumps out. Please advise..thanks in advance!

Which version of ScummVM do you use and on which platform ?

COMI is supposed to be fully completable with no problems (I did it myself). Maybe some graphical glitches, but no crashes like the ones you describe.

Are you sure your files were copied from the CD with no errors ?

I'm using ScummVM 0.9.0 on Windows XP Media Edition SP2

Yeah, its weird, I copied the files from the CD and all of the CD1 files match those in the RESOURCE directory. Please advise, Thanks again!

I don't know how to do it under Windows, but if you could find a program to generate MD5 checksums for the data files, they could then be compared to those from a version presumed to work. That should either confirm or rule out the theory that the data files are damaged.

(In this case, the relevant files are probably either musdisk1.bun or voxdisk1.bun.)

I've got the same problem and I'm also using ScummVM 0.9.0 with Windows XP Media Edition.

Same problem here. Thought I messed up sound and video files by compression, but then tried uncompressed ones with exactly the same result. The game works fine without ScummVM under Windows Server 2003 SP1. I`m using 0.9.0 btw.

Here are md5 checksums of required files (if that`s going to help):

Found out that some files (speach?) are damaged. Looking for a replacment CD now... :(
Can anyone please post the correct checksums of required files so I can be sure I've got working CD's next time.

The only obvious difference I see between your list of MD5 sums and mine is this:

c25c4a1a0ebdcfa50f4027541b096326 voxdisk1.bun
