BS voice quality.

Post by Yohein »

I'm playing Broken Sword 1, English version, with ScummVM. Everything works perfect, but there's something disturbing me.
I don't know if is a problem with ScummVM or it's the game itself, but certain phrases sound a bit worse than others. Or, other times, the volume of a few phrases becomes louder and, some time later, it comes back to normal. I noticed this especially in the hospital's reception, but it happened even before.
As I said, it's not very important, and it doesn't happen too much, but if there's a way to avoid it, even better. Maybe is a problem of the game and not of the program, but BS doesn't work for me if I don't use ScummVM, so I can't check it out.

Thanks for the help.

It might be a real bug, but from what I recall of the game, the sample quality of BS1 is not that great -- especially for the digital music. The volume can vary a lot from one track to another.

Now I'm playing Broken Sword 2 and something similar happens. But this time is worse. Sometimes, an annoying sound, like interferences, appears and I can't hear anything else. A bit later it dissapears and it comes back to normal, but it's still disturbing.
If anyone knows how to fix this, I would be very grateful.

Thanks and bye.

P.S. I've got my sound drivers updated, yes. And I have played the game before, with another version of ScummVM and everything worked perfect.

Since you don't mention which operating system you're using, whether the problem always happens the same way on the same sounds, if you're using the original sound files or compressed ones, etc, it's a bit hard to test.

The bug tracker is probably better suited for this sort of things anyway.

Sorry.
Windows 2000 SP 4.
I'm using the original sound files and no, it doesn't happen always at the same point. I repeated a moment where it happened but the second time it was perfect.

In that case, I don't know. I don't have access to any Windows computer to test it on. There have been reports of garbled sound under Windows, but I don't know if that FAQ entry is of any help to you.
