Suggestion: Text Reader

Post by marc_max »

Hi to all.
I have a suggestion for the DS Port.
I have guides in TXT format on my G6, and every time I want to read them I have to reboot and open the text reader.
What about implement one inside ScummDS pause menu? It could be very simple, for example:
1. We press START and open pause menu.
2. We click on Text Reader
3. We navigate through our cards or ZIP files
4. Then, we open a TXT file
5. The text reader could be very minimalist: without bookmarks or other features.
What do you think?

No. It was already once implemented in ScummVM and rejected. Search scummvm-devel list for "walkthrough" for detailed discussion.

And maybe something like a notepad? So we can make annotations like writing the Loom's drafts.

The thread split in 3 because of some malfunctioning mail clients. Parts are: one, two and three.

Just print the walkthroug out, read it on a PC/laptop/whatever or just make notes.
As I played Loom some years ago I noted all the notes on a sheet of paper...

Opening an "walkthrough" window would also stop the game, so where's the difference to saving and quit?
Sure, saving, quitting, rebooting and reading the text using Moonshell would take some time, but it'll also would take to find the location in the text you're searching for, so you'll need a search function and stuff...
