Hello everybody,
I want to start off by thanking the ScummVM Team for their hard work and enabling us all to play a wonderful genre of games on different platforms.
I was very happy to learn, a few days after I bought a Nokia N73, that there was a ScummVM version for S60 v3 available. I quickly copied all the games I have to the phone, it even makes me consider buying a larger memory card, so I may enjoy the full experience of sounds and voices. Too bad I don't have the floppy version of the Secret of Monkey Island, or I would have the chance to enjoy the classic MIDI experience of it.
I also copied Simon the Sorcerer (Windows version) to it, and I was happy to see that it started. Unfortunately I didn't see any subtitles, even though I enabled it in the options. When I wanted to quit (USE POSTCARD), the game -naturally- asked whether I'm sure, and waited for a Y/N response. There was a little problem, since I didn't set any keys for Y and N. I was unable to close ScummVM (the application list would also not allow me to close it) and had to switch my phone off and on. After this, ScummVM would get stuck when I wanted to enter options, and I had to remove and reinstall ScummVM.
I tried searching through the forums for a similar question, perhaps even a solution, but I couldn't find any (if this problem has been addressed before, I apologize for posting this message). I'm still very happy with the other games I managed to install and run, I just hope someone can tell me what I could do, or perhaps see this as a bug due to be fixed.
Edit: After posting this message, I realized that I may needed to post it in the Help and Support section in stead. If so, please move this topic.
Problem with Simon the Sorcerer on Nokia N73

there are no subtitles in the CD version of Simon the Sorcerer (if that's what you're using)Scorpion wrote:I also copied Simon the Sorcerer (Windows version) to it, and I was happy to see that it started. Unfortunately I didn't see any subtitles, even though I enabled it in the options.
edit: as far as I know you should be able to bring up some on-screen keyboard with the SymbianOS port. Also this post rightfully belongs in the SymbianOS forum since it's about a specific symbian support question
clem
Thank you clem, it's indeed what I'm using, I never realized it. After reading your post, I felt more confident in using Simon the Sorcerer 2, since it seems the CD version of that game does have subtitles, though the following error jumped up:I did see a mention about that elsewhere on the forums, I should note that I used ScummVM 0.10.0 (SVN) when I tried Simon1 and am using ScummVM 0.9.1 now, when trying Simon2 (since the menu looks garbled up a bit in the SVN version and the ScummVM icon is all black).
I'll put it to rest for now, I'm sure the Y/N problem is a question of mapping keys.
Code: Select all
ScummVM Fatal Error
SimonEngine::LoadGame
wrong gameNumber

Hi Scorpion!
As you can read here:
How can I switch between Joy/Key/Cursor and Shrink/Zoom/Upscale modes for SXX devices?
you can toggle between Joy/Key/Cursor input mode by pressing 0+1. On a N73 you can see in the lower left corner (depending on the screen mode you are using - for understanding that although visit the above link) a white letter for the current (keyboard) key you want to use within the game. You can now "scroll" through the keys (from space " " to tilde "~" all available ASCII characters) with the N73 stick (left/right).
By pressing 0+1 again you select the "cursor" mode, where the N73 stick is now used as the keyboard cursor keys within the game (could be used to scroll menus for example) - this mode is shortly be displayed as a red "C" (Cursor) in the lower left corner.
By pressing 0+1 again you are back in the default "mouse/joystick-mode" with is shortly be display as a red "J" (Joystick) in the lower left corner.
As mentioned before visit the link above to get more specific informations for the different modes.
Oh - and you will definitely get problems running Simon 1/2 on your N73 using ScummVM 0.9.1. They are not correctly implemented in this release (for S60/N73). You should use the newest SVN Version (0.10.0 (SVN)). It's correct that in this Version the Audio-Menu is a bit out of order and the ScummVM Logo is all black - but thanks to anotherguest (who is currently in charge for the SymbianOS port) the latest SVN build works quite fine with nearly all ScummVM compatible games!
So, have fun with ScummVM on your N73!

HI, Brian!
Thank you for your suggestions, they've been very useful.
I've purchased a 1GB MiniSD card 2 days ago, and filled 'er up with some classic games (aside from ScummVM compatible games, only Doom and a handful of MP3s). And, as you suggested, I installed the latest SVN version again. Everything seems to work fine now.
Also, many thanks go out to Anotherguest, naturally! A great invention, being able to play my favorite games while waiting in the bus, or while my girlfriend is roaming around in some shop, hehe...
